Donor Privacy & Gift Acceptance Policy

Last updated: July 31, 2026

This is a high-level public policy summary. Have it reviewed by qualified legal and financial counsel before publishing live.

Donor privacy

Rise Above Recovery respects the privacy of our donors. We do not sell, trade, or share donor contact or giving information with third parties for marketing purposes. Donors may request to remain anonymous in any public materials, and we will honor that request.

How gifts are used

Unrestricted gifts support our general operations, including housing, life skills programming, and community outreach. Restricted gifts are used according to the donor's specified purpose whenever possible; if a restriction can no longer be fulfilled as intended, we will contact the donor to discuss alternatives.

Gift acceptance

We gratefully accept cash gifts, in-kind donations, and other contributions consistent with our mission. Rise Above Recovery reserves the right to decline any gift that:

  • Would require the organization to act in a manner inconsistent with its mission or values,
  • Carries unacceptable legal, financial, or reputational risk, or
  • Comes with conditions the organization cannot reasonably fulfill.

Gifts of stock, real estate, or planned/estate gifts are evaluated individually; please contact us to discuss these options.

Tax deductibility

Rise Above Recovery is an Iowa nonprofit corporation. We have not yet received federal 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status from the IRS — our application is in preparation. Until our determination letter is received, contributions to Rise Above Recovery are not tax-deductible. We will update this page immediately once tax-exempt status is confirmed, and donors should consult their own tax advisor with any questions.
